Former MLA, lawyer and tea planter Kiran Chandra Bezbaruah died here last evening due to old age-related ailments, his family said today.
He was 91.
Bezbaruah joined active politics in the 1970s emerging as one of the foremost leaders of the anti-Emergency movement in Assam that led to the formation of a coalition government headed by the Janata Party in 1978.

He also practised law at the Gauhati High Court and managed his family tea estate.
Bezbaruah was elected to the Assembly on a Janata Party ticket from the Guwahati West constituency.
After studying Political Science at Banaras Hindu University, Bezbaruah completed his bar-at-law from Oxford University.
Bezbaruah is survived by wife, a daughter and two sons.
