Noted human rights activist and former Delhi High Court Chief Justice Rajinder Singh Sachar has been admitted to a private hospital here.

Sachar, 94, was under treatment at the hospital, a long-time associate of the former jurist told PTI.

Hospital sources refused to divulge details about the nature of the ailment.

Sachar, who was Chief Justice from August 6, 1985, to December 22, 1985, has since his retirement been associated with the People's Union for Civil Liberties, a rights group.

He was the chairperson of a committee set up by the previous UPA government to look at the social, economic and educational status of Muslims in India.
