Senior Congress leader and former Odisha MLA Santosh Singh Saluja, his cousin and another person were seriously injured after being attacked by miscreants in Odisha's Balangir district today, police said.
Saluja, along with cousin Amarjit Singh and a lawyer had been to a place near Kantabanjhi, about 80 km from here, when they were suddenly attacked by a group of about four persons, Inspector In-Charge of Kantabanjhi police station, Jyotirmaya Gupa said.
The ex-legislator from Kantabanjhi and his cousin sustained injuries in their arms, legs and chest as the attackers used sharp weapons and sticks, he said.
The injured persons were first taken to a hospital at Kantabanjhi and later shifted to the district headquarter hospital here and their condition was stated to be stable.
Later Amarjit Singh was shifted to a hospital in Raipur where he stays, the police said.
Though the exact reason behind the attack was yet to be ascertained, sources said some dispute related to property was suspected to have led to the incident.
Meanwhile, five persons have been taken into custody in connection with the incident and investigation was in progress, the police said.
