A proposal mooted by freedom fighters to hold a meeting of their organisation in London, the land of British whom they drove out of India 69 years ago, has been dropped following differences among themselves.
In April last year, the London meeting proposal was mooted by a few members of the government-constituted Committee of Eminent Freedom Fighters in Srinagar.
However, in the committee's meeting today, which was presided over by Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju, the proposal was rejected as there was no consensus among the freedom fighters over whether to hold a meeting in London, a Home Ministry official said.
