Girl sets herself afire after being raped in UP

A 19-year-old girl set herself on fire after being allegedly raped by a youth in Wazirganj area here.

The victim, who got married recently, was raped by a youth identified as Swale Khan on Friday, Additional Superintendent of Police Balendu Bhushan Singh said today.

After the incident, the victim's parents brought her to Badaun where she set herself ablaze, he said.

The victim was rushed to Bareilly in a critical condition where she died during treatment last evening, the ASP said.

The accused Swale has been arrested under various sections of the IPC, including rape, he added.
