Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today cautioned the teachers in the state against indulging in politics and said that a legislation would be brought to "debar" them from taking part in political activities.

"The government would ensure that the teachers carry out their responsibilities in a dignified manner and not indulge in politics. We will soon bring a legislation that will debar them from taking part in politics," he said.

He also said, "I am not against the student activities in the higher centres of learning provided that they adhere to discipline and not indulge in mischief".

Singh was speaking at the 12th convocation of CSK Agriculture University in Palampur.

He said that the government had opened educational institutions in far-flung areas so that children could get quality education and become capable of excelling in all competitions and serve the country with dignity.
