Assam Governor P B Acharya today urged Universities to not only be just 'knowledge centres' but also play an important and proactive role in converting themselves into 'development centers' with action-oriented strategies.
The Governor, also the Chancellor of Tezpur University, held a meeting with the officials of the University in this regard recently and it was attended among others by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury and Director Centre for Inclusive Development Dr Rajeev Doley.
The Governor instructed the representatives that each university should adopt 10 villages and develop them with a definite and well planned format with an emphasis on creating basic facilities like toilets in schools, a Tezpur University press release said here today.

The University should also make all efforts to recognize the talents in the villages while the village development activity should be introduced as a credit course at the Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate programmes wherein the Governor might be invited to witness the developmental activities of the villages.
The universities should include skill development courses in the curriculumm and should also form a Swachh Bharat Committee for initiating cleanliness campaign in the villages of their home districts as well as the adjacent districts.
