Govt to auction Kuruvai paddy for farmers

The Madurai Market Committee, a wing of Tamil Nadu Agricultural Marketing & Agri Business, will auction the Kuruvai Paddy brought to the paddy market from November 20.

According to District Collector L Subramanian, auctioning of the paddy would fetch the farmers better price for their produce in view of the bidding by competitors.

Under the new system, the produce of the farmers would be graded according to quality and auctioned to get them the best price.

The auctioning would done on all the days except Saturdays and Sundays, he said.

Officials said the new system was a replacement for the current system of procuring paddy from the farmers at the price fixed by the government.
 

There was a possbility of farmers getting better price for their produce,though it could not be assured.

But if the farmers were not satisfied with the price, they could store the paddy and sell them when they get good bidding, the Collector said.
