Guj: life term for woman, her boyfriend for husband's murder

Press Trust of India Vadodara
Anand district court in Gujarat has sentenced a woman and her lover to life imprisonment for murdering her husband in a ten-year-old case.

Sessions judge K R Prajapati yesterday convicted Gayatri Patel and Harshad Solanki for the murder of her husband Rakesh Patel in June 2004.

The prosecution's case was that Gayatri and her lover Harshad pushed Rakesh into a gorge from a hilltop near the Bhadrakali temple at Pavagadh, about 35 km from here, on June 29, 2004, within two days of her marriage.

The court dubbed the crime as a "very cruel act".

According to police, Gayatri had married Rakesh under her parents' pressure, and hatched a plan to kill him.

She persuaded him to visit the temple, where the plan was executed.

She informed the police that her husband had gone missing, but revealed the truth during the interrogation.
