Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel today appointed five BJP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries.
They include Anjar MLA Vasanbhai Ahir, Patan MLA Ranchhodbhai Desai, Kheralu MLA Bharatsinh Dabhi, Chotila MLA Shamji Chauhan and Kodinar MLA Jethabhai Solanki.
Patel administered the oath of office to these newly appointed parliamentary secretaries at a function at Swarnim Sankul at Gandhinagar in the presence of ministers and other key officials of government, an official statement said.

Later during the evening, she alloted departments to these secretaries. Ahir was given Welfare of Socially and Educationally Backward Classes, Desai has been given Panchayats, Dabhi would look after Water Resources, Chauhan has been given Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs, while Solanki has been alloted Welfare of Scheduled Castes.
Parliamentary secretaries are usually considered deputy ministers and appointed to help cabinet ministers in speeding up the work of their departments.
