Haryana has recorded a reduction of 5.8 per cent in the annual number of new cases of HIV infection.
This was revealed by Additional Project Director, Haryana State AIDS Control Society, Dr Vijay Garg at a training workshop on HIV/AIDS organized for Army personnel at the headquarters of Western Command, Chandimandir, Panchkula, near here.
In his inaugural address, Garg said that there are around 27,000 HIV patients in the state and Haryana is among the lowest-prevalence state with a prevalence of 0.11 per cent as compared to the adjoining states of Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh.
The prevalence of the infection in High Risk Group population like female sex workers, men having sex with men, truckers, migrants and injecting drug users has fallen, he claimed.
Garg said for providing better treatment to HIV patients, a new Anti-Retroviral Treatment Centre is being set up at Medical College in Agroha.
Also, four new opioid substitution treatment centres are being set up at Sirsa, Jind, Hisar and Rewari.
