The Madras High Court today directed police to register a case if a cognisable offence is made out on a complaint against BJP national secretary H Raja for his reported remarks against Kanimozhi, DMK MP and daughter of former chief minister M Karunanidhi.

The petition was filed by K R Kukesh, president, Tamil Nadu Isai Vellalargal Nala Sangam, Mogappair west.

The petitioner alleged that Raja's comments were defamatory in nature.

Justice N Sathishkumar observed there is no need to keep the complaint pending.

The judge directed the police to register a case if cognisable offence was made out or to close it "if prima facie case is not made out."

The petitioner submitted he had lodged a complaint before police against Raja, but no action was taken following which he moved the court.
