The Calcutta High Court today granted bail to three alleged Maoists who were arrested in 2012 by the Kolkata Police under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Arms Act.
A division bench of Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice S S Sadhu granted the bail prayer of the three accused, noting that a chargesheet had already been filed against them and that they were in custody for 557 days so far.
The accused are Abhijit Mukherjee, Sunil Mondal and Subhas Ray.

The petitioners' counsel Shekhar Basu submitted that though a case under the Arms Act has been slapped against the accused, only leaflets were found in their possession.
The prosecution counsel opposed the bail prayer on the ground that the accused were associated with Maoist activity and that they should not be enlarged on bail.
