Press Trust of India Madurai
The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court today ordered issue of notice to Home Secretary and DGP on a PIL seeking to direct police to upload all FIRs pending in police stations in Tamil Nadu in the state police website.

Justice V Ramasubramanian and Justice V M Velumani ordered notice to the officials seeking their explanation.

The petitioner, V Kasirajan, an advocate, also wanted another direction to police to upload all future FIRs also within 24 hours after they were registered by police stations.

The petitioner submitted that FIR was a public document under the Indian Evidence Act. Uploading it should be viewed as a fair procedure enabling the accused to have first hand knowledge about the FIR lodged against him.

The High Courts at Cuttack and Delhi had already considered the issue and issued suitable orders.
