The Gujarat High Court has refused to take up a PIL challenging the decision of the Election Commission to not announce the dates of assembly elections for the state along with that of Himachal Pradesh.

The vacation bench of Justice A J Shastri refused to hear the PIL filed by one Praful Desai after the petitioner failed to convince the vacation bench about the urgency of the matter.

In his petition, Desai had said that the last two times, the Election Commission had announced the dates of elections of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh together but this time it has withheld the imposition of model code of conduct for Gujarat, allowing the state government to announce a plethora of projects for the public.

The EC recently announced the dates for polls in Himachal Pradesh but did not announce the dates for Gujarat, which has raised a political storm with Congress alleging that the BJP government had influenced the decision of the EC.
