The Orissa High Court today deferred again the hearing on the bail application of BJD MLA Pravat Ranjan Biswal, arrested in September a chit fund scam case, as the CBI failed to submit the case diary.

For the second time, the prosecution failed to submit the case diary, following which Justice Biswanath Rath posted the matter to be taken up again after two weeks.

Earlier, the CBI had failed to submit the case diary on October 17.

The CBI has also been asked to submit a report on the health status of Biswal, who is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here for more than five weeks for several complications.

Probing the multi-crore Seashore Group chit fund scam, the investigating agency had called Biswal, a three-time MLA, to its Bhubaneswar office on September 18 and subsequently arrested him.

The CBI is probing alleged payment of Rs 25 lakh by Seashore Chairman-cum-Managing Director Prasanta Kumar Dash to Biswal in two instalments as "protection money" for allowing smooth operations of the company in his constituency.
