Laxman Singh Rathore, Director General, India Meteorological Department, has been elected a member of the Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
Rathore was elected as member of the WMO Executive Council during its ongoing meeting in Geneva.
The Council is the executive body of the WMO, the United Nation's weather agency which has a membership 191 member- states and territories.

Rathore had earlier served as Vice President of Commission of Agriculture Meteorology of WMO.
The Council is composed of 37 heads of National Meteorological Services and includes the President and three Vice-Presidents who are elected by Congress, and the presidents of the six regional associations, by whom they are elected.
