Incessant rains damage over 1200 houses in Doda

More than 1200 houses have been damaged in the mountainous Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir due to the ongoing spell of incessant rains in the state, an official spokesman said.

A team of minister and MLAs today visited the Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda districts, to review the status of the damages caused by the rainfall.

"Deputy Commissioner Doda Bhupinder Kumar said that the number of houses damaged in the District was 1291 out of which 198 got fully damaged, 319 received severe damages while as 774 houses were partially damaged," he said.

"51 animals were reported to have died, 310 cow sheds received damages and seven religious structures were also damaged due to rains, floods and landslides when the reports last came in," he added.
 

The spokesman said that around 650 people of 128 families have been shifted to safer places from the landslide prone areas and temporary accommodations have been provided to them.

The team comprising of Minister for Health and Medical Education, Chowdhary Lal Singh accompanied by Minister of State for PWD and Revenue Sunil Kumar Sharma and MLA Doda Shakti Raj Parihar and MLA Ramban Neelam Langeh interacted with the locals to know about the problems being faced by them, he said.
