Indian Ambassador to Bhutan V P Haran today called on Bhutanese National Assembly's new Speaker Jigme Zangpo and discussed the areas of cooperation between the parliaments of two neighbours.

Haran congratulated Zangpo and said he was indeed the best person to be elected as the Speaker given his experience.

Zangpo, a member of the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP), was elected as the Speaker of the 47-member National Assembly last week.

They discussed areas of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

"Parliament of India will be happy to cooperate with Bhutan in training the Hon Members and the Secretariat of the National Assembly," Haran was quoted as saying in a release issued by the National Assembly of Bhutan Secretariat.

The PDP stormed to power last month winning a two-thirds majority, inflicting a stunning defeat on the incumbent Druk Phuensum Tshogpa, in the second parliamentary elections in the landlocked Himalayan nation nestled between India and China.

PDP bagged 32 seats in the National Assembly as against just two in the previous election.
