Union textile minister Smriti Irani today said her ministry will support efforts to revive the traditional Kunbi saree of Goa.

"If there are people who want to revive Kunbi saree (traditionally worn by the women of Kunbi community), the Government of India will be happy to extend support," she said.

The minister was speaking to reporters here after a meeting with the state culture minister Govind Gaude, during which the issue of dying tradition of Kunbi saree weaving was discussed.

Claiming that the NDA government has given a big push to the textile industry in the last three years, Irani said introduction of Mudra Yojana has helped weavers in a big way.

"Earning capacity of weavers who benefited under the Mudra Yojana has increased by 60-80 per cent," she said.
