Seven government officials were found absent from duty without notice at the Sub-District Hospital in Bishnah belt of Samba district today during a surprise visit by Jammu & Kashmir minister Shabir Ahmad Khan.

The Minister of State for Health imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 each on the three medical officers and Rs 500 each on the four para-medical staff members for dereliction of duty and ordered an inquiry against them.

The minister directed the Director of Health Services, Jammu to seek an explanation from the Block Medical Officer for mismanagement and indiscipline in the hospital.

Khan, while checking the attendance register, found that 23 staff, too, had not marked their attendance.

The minister said that stern action would be taken against the errant officials. He also directed officials to take immediate steps to avoid inconvenience to patients and maintain proper sanitation in and around the hospital, besides adherence to dress code by the hospital staff.
