Press Trust of India Lucknow
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today demanded strict action against police and administration officials for lathicharging and detaining several persons in Jalaun who were protesting the alleged desecration of a statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar.

"Strict action should be initiated against officials of police and administration. They lathicharged and detained people protesting against the desecration of Dr Ambedkar's statue in Jalaun yesterday. This shows the anti-Dalit mentality of the state government," Mayawati said in a statement issued here.

Some persons had desecrated a statue of Dr Ambedkar in the night on September 23 in Kashikheda village in Jalaun. The matter came to fore yesterday morning after which people protested.

Mayawati also condemned the lathicharge on students on the BHU campus in Varanasi and demanded justice and security for them.
