Press Trust of India Kozhikode
Janata dal (United) today alleged that "lack of co-operation" among the UDF alliance partners was the main reason for the defeat of the party candidates in the May 16 Kerala assembly elections.

Talking to reporters after a meeting of JD(U) leaders here, party state president M P Veerendra Kumar, said "Congress and IUML party workers did not obey the directions of their respective party leaders. There was lack of cooperation at grassroot level."

The failure of "such a magnitude" was unexpected, Kumar said.

"LDF reaped the benefit of a strong popular sentiment against the rise of Sangh Parivar in the state," he said.

All the seven candidates of JD(U) who contested in the elections were defeated in the polls.

Meanwhile, the meeting accepted the resignation offered by party Kozhikode district secretary Manayath Chandran, who was the JD(U) candidate in Vadakara constituency.
