Aides of a ruling JDS MLA heckled and abused a woman constable after she refused them entry into an high-security area around the KRS Dam in Karnataka with a video of the incident going viral.
The incident occurred yesterday when MLA Ravindra Srikantaiah came to the dam site to check the preparations ahead of Chief Minister H D Kumarswamy's visit tomorrow. While the MLA was let in, his supporters were stopped at another gate.
In the video, his aides were seen picking up a verbal fight with the constable after she refused them entry into thehigh-security area surrounding the dam even as a police officer looked on.
A supporter of the MLA was heard saying, "You do not have any right to stop us because it is our grandfathers who gave land to construct the dam."
Amidst the melee, one of the aides lifted a barricade and threw it on the wayside and entered the high-security zone.
Srikantaiah said he had nothing to do with the incident and requested the people assembled there not to misbehave with the constable.
Later speaking to media, Sai Kumar, one of the supporters, alleged that the constable started abusing them when they wanted to enter the dam for putting up a flex board for the visit of the chief minister.
He said they told the constable that they were panchayat members accompanying the MLA and had permission "to carry out the work. But, the constable started to abuse us in filthy language and hence we also paid her back in the same coin," Kumarcharged.
