The Jammu and Kashmir government has launched a scheme for disabled soldiers and their dependents by providing credit on concessional rate of interest to set up self-employment ventures.

Making the announcement here today, Jammu and Kashmir Scheduled caste, Scheduled Tribe and Backward Class Development Corporation vice chairperson Balbir Ram said the scheme was being launched in collaboration with the National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC).

"Disabled soldiers or dependent relatives of such soldiers, who are permanent residents of the state, having disability of 40 per cent and above can avail the loan, the maximum limit of which is Rs 25 lakh with 4-7 per cent rate of interest per annum," he said.

"In order to inculcate the spirit of self confidence among disabled soldiers through self-employment and utilise their honesty and courage gained through past employment, the corporation proposes to provide them credit on concessional rate of interest," he said.

The senior BJP leader said the eligible soldiers and their dependents should submit applications for the loan to district offices of the corporation located in each district of the state.
