For welfare of construction workers in Jammu and Kashmir, the state government plans to introduce schemes like housing, pension, skill development and group insurance.
"Schemes like housing, pension, skill development and group insurance will be introduced shortly for the welfare of construction workers," Labour minister Ajay Sahotra said here today.
Chairing a meeting of Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board, the minister asked the officers to frame modalities of the schemes so that these can be introduced early for the welfare of construction workers.

He also asked the officers of the department to settle all pending claims of the construction workers registered with them.
The Minister asked the officers to visit all construction sites and see whether the firms are paying cess what they are actually supposed to remit as per the standing norms.
The meeting was informed that 2.41 lakh construction workers are registered with the department while about Rs 126 crore cess has been collected so far in Kashmir Division, an official spokesman said.
He said the department has disbursed Rs 82 crore among the beneficiaries since 2011-2012 fiscal.
