Journalist suicide: Police Inspector sent to judicial custody

A police inspector, who was arrested in connection with alleged suicide of a local woman journalist, was sent to judicial custody after his police remand ended, police said.

The accused Amit Kumar was yesterday produced in a court here which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days, a police spokesperson said.

Kumar was arrested in connection with the suicide of the woman journalist who allegedly jumped to death from her residential building on the intervening night of May 1 and May 2.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi also expressed deep

distress and grief at the passing away of Malhotra.
 

Extending her condolences to the family and friends of Malhotra, she said, "He was a doyen who witnessed and chronicled our evolution as a nation and his passing away has created a void that will be difficult to fill.
