The Kannada press day was
celebrated jointly by the Dakshina Kannada district working journalists association and Mangaluru press club at a function held at the Patrika Bhavan here today.
Inaugurating the celebrations, Alva's Educational Foundation chairman M Mohan Alva said journalists should strive hard to ensure that the fourth pillar of democracy did not get rusted.
The media played a vital role in the social and personal life of individuals and journalists should always tell the truth to the readers, he said.
Dakshina Kannada district working journalists association president Jagannath Shetty Bala and 'Udayavani' Mangaluru bureau chief Manohar Prasad also spoke.
A newspaper collector Umesh Yakar, who had a collection of papers dating back to around 50 years, was felicitated on the occasion. An exhibition of his collection was also organised.
