Karna HC notice to Sonia, PCC chief quite strange: Cong

Press Trust of India New Delhi
Congress today dubbed as "quite strange" the Karnataka High Court's notices to Sonia Gandhi and state PCC chief on a petition alleging political parties, including it, are collecting funds from applicants who have sought tickets to contest the Assembly election.

"It is amazing. It is quite strange that we have been given notice...," party spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury told reporters.

She was reacting to reports that the high court has ordered emergent notices to Gandhi and others on a petition filed by V Shashidhar, president of Karnataka Police Maha Sangha, accusing the Election Commission of allowing political parties to collect party funds (in case of Congress, it is 10,000) while issuing applications to candidates willing to contest the elections.

Chowdhury downplayed charges in Karnataka that lot of money has changed hands in the ticket distribution process of the party.
