The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) today adopted a resolution opposing the Centre's notification banning sale and purchase of cattle from animal markets for slaughter, saying it would affect the food habits of the tribals.

The lone BJP member, Neil Antonio War, an executive member of the Council, also supported the resolution moved by opposition Congress members and which was later adopted by the ruling People's Democratic Front in the House of 30.

KHADC chairman L G Nongsiej announced adoption of the resolution.

KHADC is one of the three tribal autonomous councils in the state.

Meghalaya assembly has adopted a similar resolution at a one day sitting on June 12.
