Family members of a businessman, who died in a road accident involving a rashly-driven truck, have been given a compensation of over Rs 29 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
The tribunal directed Reliance�Insurance�Company, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay Rs 29,63,500 to deceased Bhupender Singh's wife and three minor children.
"In view of the unrebutted testimony of the petitioners and documents available on record, it is prima facie proved that deceased Bhupender Singh died due to injuries suffered in the road traffic accident caused due to rash and negligent driving of the truck driver," MACT Presiding Officer Dinesh Bhatt said.

The accident took place near Inderlok Metro station in Sarai Rohilla area on November 8 last year when the victim was riding his scooter, Singh's family members told the tribunal.
When Singh reached near the metro station, the offending truck, being driven by Lal Ray, hit Singh's scooter from behind and also crushed him under its wheels, the family said.
45-year-old Singh was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Singh's family also said that he was involved in a business and was earning over Rs three lakh per annum.
The owner and driver of the truck, however, claimed that the accident had taken place due to the negligence of Singh.
The tribunal, however, rejected their claim.
