Koirala symbol of Nepalese renaissance: India

Describing BP Koirala as the symbol of Nepalese renaissance, Indian Ambassador here paid rich tributes to the former prime minister on his 100th birth anniversary.

"We should translate the thoughts and ideas of great democratic leader BP Koirala if we are to pay tribute to him," he said.

Speaking at an interaction programme organised by Indian Embassy and BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation in Kathmandu, Rae said, "BP Koirala was the symbol of Nepalese renaissance, who fought his entire life for social justice and democratic rights."

On the occasion Professor Jay Raj Acharya, former Nepalese resident representative to the United Nations, shed light on late Koirala's contributions to the Nepalese democratic struggle and his literary works.
 

Koirala was the first democratically elected Prime Minister in Nepal's history.

India-born Koirala held office for 18 months from May 1959 to December 1960.
