The city government today assured the Delhi High Court that the 'Kushak nallah', adjoining South Extension-I and the reason behind waterlogging in the area, would be cleared of all construction debris before being handed back to the municipal corporation.
The submission by the Public Works Department (PWD) of the Delhi government came after a bench of Justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Ashutosh Kumar perused photographs of the area and said that everything there is "still in a very bad shape" and asked as to "when will this become alright".
"Why cannot you clear plastic and debris on a day-to-day basis," the court asked PWD which had taken over the nallah to construct the Barapullah flyover which it has said would be completed by the end of March 2017.

According to residents of the area, the debris and garbage in the nallah are the reason for waterlogging there during the monsoon.
In view of PWD's submission that the nallah would be "absolutely neat and clean" before handing over to the corporation, the bench said it will note further progress on April 12, the next date of hearing.
The court was hearing a PIL relating to steps to check waterlogging in this area, a matter it has been monitoring since 2012.
