A district court today sentenced a labourer to double life imprisonment for murdering two watchmen at an under-construction building here in 2012.

The court of Judge N Seshasayee said the sentences would run concurrently and also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 in the case.

If the convicted person fails to pay the above penalty amount, he would have to undergo Rigorous Imprisonment for a further six months, the judge said.

According to the prosecution, the convict thrashed a 65- year-old watchman to death with a wooden club after the latter objected to him staying at the construction site. The second watchman, also an aged person, was then fatally attacked by the convict who thereafter had fled the spot.

He was later arrested in the case.
