Late Chhabra's daughter-in-law continues fast from hospital

Press Trust of India Jaipur
Adamant on carrying forward her father-in-law former MLA Gurucharan's protest for liquor ban and strong Lokayukta in Rajasthan, 35-year-old Pooja Chhabra continued her hunger strike from the ICU of SMS Hospital here for the seventh day today.

"Pooja, who has been admitted in the ICU of SMS hospital, has refused to take any food or juice. She was shifted from Shaheed Smarak by police on November 27 afternoon," her husband Gaurav Chhabra told PTI.

She is suffering from low blood pressure and diabetic condition due to no intake of semi-solid food. A glucose drip has been administered to her, he added.

Gaurav said no minister or government official has so far come to meet Pooja. "We did not even get any communication from the CM's office."

Pooja had started her agitation on November 23 outside the Chief Minister's residence at Civil Lines which is a prohibited area under Section 144 of CrPC, and had continued her strike outside Sodala Police station where she had been taken by cops. She was arrested and released late night.

From Sodala Police station she moved to Shaheed Smarak where she has been sitting on hunger strike until she was removed from there by police on November 27.

Gurucharan, former Janta Dal MLA, had died on November 3 after being on fast for 32 days.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Archna Sharma said the state BJP government making no attempt to resolve Pooja's agitation for the last seven days was "height of insensitivity".

Sharma visited Pooja at the hospital, and demanded that Raje government should clarify its stand whether it wants ban on liquor or not.
