Amid a firm trend in the base metals market overseas and pick up in domestic demand, lead futures today traded 0.28 per cent higher at Rs 163.85 per.

Lead for delivery in February contracts moved up by 45 paise, or 0.28 per cent, to Rs 163.85 per kg in a business turnover of 2 lots, at the Multi Commodity Exchange.

The metal for delivery in January was trading higher by 25 paise, or 0.15 per cent, at Rs 163.25 per kg in 261 lots.

Analysts said better demand from battery makers in the spot market and strength in base metals pack at the London Metal Exchange (LME), supported by weakness in the dollar, influenced prices.

At the LME, lead for three-month delivery traded at USD 2,553.50 per tonne.
