Lightning kills 8 in West Bengal

Eight persons died today after being struck by lightning at different places across Murshidabad as rains accompanied by thunder lashed the district.

Two persons died at Musurdanga village and one in Baruipada village within the limits of Hariharpada police station, said a senior police officer at the district headquarters.

Within the limits of Murshidabad police station, two persons died in Budaspada village and a 10-year-old girl died in Kapasdanga village, he said.

Two more persons, including a woman, died after they were struck by lightning in Kayagram village under Baharampore police station and Raghunathpur village under the limits of Islampur police station of the district, the officer said adding, most of the victims were working at the fields when they were struck by lightning.
