Linguistic training to Malaysian students

As many as 14 students of the University of Malaya, Malaysia, will undergo training at Bharathiar Unviersity here to further their understanding in the field of linguistics.

The training, which begins on July four will cover Tamil teaching, Translation, Computational Linguistics, Language use in various domains, Language Teaching and learning in Multi-linguistic Context.

Many a seasoned linguists hailing from various parts of India and in house experts will impart training, which concludes on July 24, a varsity release said today.

The department has been doing linguistic research for the past three decades on both major and minor and minority languages and has been selected by the UGC under special assistance program for studying tribal languages of western ghats.
 

Around Rs 41 lakh had been granted for the purpose besides Rs 2 crore for protecting endangered indigenous languages, it said.

The program will be inaugurated by the University Vice-Chancellor, A Ganapathi and Salem-based Periyar University Vice Chancellor, C Swaminathan will deliver special address.
