Well-known economist and career consultant Jayantilal Bhandari expressed concerns here today that the number of non-engineering students entering Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) is dwindling, adding that the government must do something about it.
Figures released by IIM Indore suggested that more engineers join the institution, since of the 451 students who opted for its post-graduate programme, 401 had an engineering background, which meant that 89 per cent came from this category, he said.
Engineering degree holders turn to IIMs only in the hope of earning a fat salary, Bhandari told PTI today.
Bhandari said that it is a matter of concern that the number of non-engineering students at IIMs is dwindling and added that the government must do something about it.
