Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the Maharashtra government today announced 'cluster development schemes' for the neighbouring Thane and Navi Mumbai.
Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan stated in the Assembly that cluster re-development in Thane will require a minimum area of one hectare, where all the illegal constructions, more than 30 year old legal structures, and less than 30 years old dangerous buildings and slums will be entitled to be redeveloped with Floor Space Index of 4, or double the area of redevelopment.
Beneficiaries in legal structures will not have to pay for redevelopment, but those in illegal structures will have to pay 25 per cent of the construction cost for more than 100 sq mt area.
