The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said here today that the state government would not hesitate to spend more money to construct a statue of Maratha warrior king Shivaji in the Arabian sea.
Yesterday, the Maharashtra cabinet gave its nod to allocate Rs 100 crore to build Shivaji's statue in the Arabian sea off the Mumbai coast.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Chavan had also mentioned that Shivaji's statue would be the tallest in the world, though he refused to specify its height.

"The state government will not hesitate to spend more if the need arises," MPCC chief Manikrao Thakre said today, after it was pointed out to him that the Gujarat government had allocated more than Rs 2000 crore for the first phase of the construction of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's statue, which is also being touted as the world's tallest statue.
"This is not about competition (to construct the statue). We had planned it before them (Gujarat government). The project should be completed in a time-bound manner," Thakre said.
