West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today urged the villagers of Bhangar in South 24-Parganas district to rethink their decision of not allowing the construction of a Power Grid sub-station there.

Stating that the sub-station would help in development of the entire area, Banerjee said "I will request them to rethink on this matter. It is a project of the Centre and we assisted them because if we do not, people staying there will not get power."

"A few people have gathered arms and bombs there. I will not allow it. I will have to rescue the villagers and we will do it," Banerjee said.

"In the coming days these areas will slip into darkness, which I do not want. Load-shedding was a curse for Bengal, but now we have surplus power.

"I want to bring you all in light, I never wanted to bring darkness to you... I think people must unmask those who want to bring darkness to them. And common people should realise this today or tomorrow... There may be personal grudges, but it does not mean you will not allow power to reach the place," the Chief Minister said.
