A man allegedly killed his five-year-old daughter after his wife did not give him money to buy liquor, police said on Saturday.

The man, a watchman at an apartment complex where the family stays, used to harass her for money to buy liquor, they said.

The couple have two daughters aged seven and five.

He quarreled with his wife on Friday night, asking her for money.

The woman, who works as a maid, woke up on Saturday and asked her husband to take the children to school, they said.

She left for work and when she returned found her younger daughter lying still.

When she called her brother, he told her that her husband had asked him to take the elder daughter to school and let the younger one remain with him, police said.

The woman, along with her brother, took the girl to a hospital where the duty doctor pronounced her dead.

Police said the woman lodged a complaint after she found injuries and throttling marks on the neck.

A murder case has been registered.
