A Hyderabad court convicted a 40-year-old man on Tuesday for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old daughter last year and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Judge N Narsing Rao of the Metropolitan Sessions Court found the man guilty under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, a press release from the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate said.
Justice Rao sentenced him to 10 years in jail and fined him Rs 5,000, the statement said.
According to the prosecution, the man, who was a drunkard, used to have sexual intercourse with his daughter studying in Class V and threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone.
On September 26, 2018, while watching a video about good touch and bad touch that was screened at her school, the girl cried. A teacher called the girl's mother and informed her about the matter, the release said.
Following this, a case was registered and the accused was arrested, the release added.
