Forest range officers at
Belthangady near here arrested a person for allegedly hunting and killing a sambar (deer) from the woods in Mittabagilu Malavantige village in the district.
Official sources identified the arrested person as Jagadish alias Sahadeva from Puttur, who was returning after the hunt with three others this morning when his car was stopped by the officers based on credible information.
Three others in the car managed to escape while Sahadeva was caught by the officers, they said.
The carcass of the animal was found inside the car. The officers seized the vehicle and a single barrel rifle from the arrested person.
The deer was around two-years old, the sources said.
