A 26-year-old man was killed by a crocodile today while he was taking bath in Brahmani river here, near the Bhitarkanika National Park.

The mutilated body of Kedar Kumar Pradhan, resident of Chandanpur village under Rajnagar Tehsil, was fished out from the river by villagers, DFO, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) forest division, Bimal Prasanna Acharya said.

Forest officials rushed to the village as the locals were agitated over the frequent crocodile attacks on people.

Kamalakant, younger brother of the victim, an eyewitness of the incident said, "A big crocodile suddenly emerged out of knee-length water and dragged him into the river".

About a dozen people and many domestic animals have fallen victims to reptiles in Kendrapara district recently.
