A man has been arrested for allegedly robbing and killing 75-year-old woman after entering her residence in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh posing as a plumber, the police said today.

On January 26, the body of Raj Rani Grover was found at her home with her neck slit and certain jewellery missing, said.

During investigation, it emerged that the woman had called two plumbers for repairing a water motor pump, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Aslam Khan said.

The two plumbers were interrogated and it was revealed that another man, posing as a plumber and electrician, had joined them, the officer said.

Following an investigation and scanning of CCTV footages, the accused was identified as Budhai (37), a rickshaw puller, Khan said, adding the accused was arrested from his house in Jahangirpuri this morning.

During interrogation, he told the police that he was roaming in the area with an intention to commit theft when he saw the two men working and joined them, the police said.

The two plumbers thought he had been hired by the woman and did not question him much, they said.

The accused entered the woman's room and told her to handover the jewellery, but when she raised hue and cry he slit her throat with a kitchen knife and fled after robbing two pairs of earrings, gold bangles, a necklace, some cash and her mobile phone, the police said.
