A 35-year-old Dalit man was shot dead today, just days after he had a scuffle with his co-villager at Pilauna village here, police said.

Sunil was ambushed by some youths while he was going somewhere from his village, they said.

Police arrived at the scene after getting information of the incident, but the villagers did not allow them to take the body for a post-mortem.

They staged a protest with the body on the road which resulted in a traffic jam.

They allowed the body to be taken after the intervention of SP (Rural) and Samajwadi Party leader Atul Pradhan.

Sunil had a scuffle with another villager Jatin two days back. It is being alleged that the murder is fallout of this fight.

The deceased's cousin Ravi Kumar filed a complaint against Jatin and another person Vishal.

Police said they are trying to nab the culprit.
