Doctors and other staff members of Tezpur Medical College and Hospital today abstained from duties demanding increase in security, following assault of a medico over the death of a baby.
Holding a sit-in demonstration in the premises of the hospital, the employees alleged that repeated requests to the authorities and Assam Police to set up an outpost in the campus has not been met.
None of those who had attacked the doctor last night were arrested, one of the agitating doctors said, adding "If such attacks continue, doctors and nurses will leave the hospital."

Principal of the medical college Dr N C Bhattacharjee said repeated attacks were taking place on doctors and other staff of the institute.
"It is unfortunate that we could not provide proper service to the patients despite being present in the hospital," he said admitting that services were affected because of the strike.
Dr Jayanta Jyoti Laskar of the paediatrics department was assaulted by a group of people after a six-month-old baby died.
Laskar said the baby was brought to the hospital in the morning and was treated in the OPD section. Later the parents were advised to take the child home.
The baby was again brought to the hospital during the night but the infant was already dead by then, the doctor said.
After this, the parents and some people accompanying them, assaulted the doctor and he managed to save himself by running and hiding in the boy's hostel.
