A mob today went on the rampage and damaged police vehicles and held up traffic on the Amritsar- Pathankot National Highway demanding action against a suspected robber whom they had caught.
Residents of Ghashitpur village today nabbed a person whom they accused of being a member of a gang which was behind robberies in the area.
But the mob which went to police demanding action against the accused soon turned violent and smashed windowpanes of police vehicles, law and order officials said.
The agitated locals also blocked highway traffic for two hours.
Police, who had to call in more personnel to bring the situation under control, assured locals that swift action would be taken on their complaint, whereupon the blockade was lifted.
